SHILLONG: The two-day 1st North East Land Conference (NELandCon 2020) was inaugurated at the conference hall of Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU), Shillong in Meghalaya on Thursday. The programme is being jointly organised by North East Network (NEN), Rongmei Naga Baptist Association (RNBA), North Eastern Region Community Resource Management Project ( NERCORMP), and MLCU.
At the inauguration, Journalist Rina Chandran of Thomson Reuters Foundation, Proanab Ranjan Choudhury, the VP of NRMC-CLG, director of NERCORMP NRM Mihin Dollo, Secretary of RNBA Manipur Dimgong Rongmei, CEO of NEN Dr. Monish Behal, VC if MLCU Dr. Vincent T. Darlong were the chief invitees.
The conference was formally opened with the recital of a song on nature by troupes of the music department of the university.
The conference is participated by delegates from Manipur, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram, Meghalaya, and Assam as well as those from non-northeast states like Orissa and Delhi. In addition, representatives are participating at the conference and presenting discourses on related topics.
The chief objective of the conference is to provide land holdership rights to poor landless families and increasing the sustainability of their livelihood. Rina Chandran said that though there are different land ownership systems, the common outlook should be on promoting welfare of one and all and yearn for its actuation.
