IMPHAL: Police intervened to stop a meeting being convened by Mayanglang Phijol Yonbi Apunba Nupi Lup (MPYANL) at Khwairamband Ima Market on Monday to discuss the re-opening of the market from two-three days ahead of Ningol Chakouba festival by sticking to Covid-19 SOP and rules and regulations of the state government.
On the sideline, the president MPYANL RK Sanatombi told media persons that the meeting was arranged to take up a group discussion to prepare a course for seeking permission from the concerned state authority for re-opening of the market before Ningol Chakouba festival as many retailers have been seriously affected in their business since last 8 months due to Covid-19 pandemic.
However, the vendors were glad to learn about the order issued by the concerned state authority allowing them to open the market from November 15 onwards in the aftermath of the growing demands for the reopening ahead of the festival. It was the desire of a few young vendors to trade their wares at the market in strict adherence to the SOPs of Covid-19 and none of them meant to stand against the rules and regulations enforced by the state government, she added.
However, there is unhappiness among the vendors over the disparity shown by the authority as restriction was imposed on them from opening the market while malls and shops in the surrounding area have been permitted to open during this pandemic, she added.
OC Sudhir Kumar also said that no restriction of holding meeting and opening markets were given from the side of the police, however it take ups action of restricting upon the retailers meeting as per the government restriction given to the markets retailers amidst this pandemic while it directed to proceed after taking permission from the relevant concern authority, he added.
