Thoubal: A team of Thoubal Police commando seized a large number of illegal cough syrup commonly known as Codeine Phosphate and Chlorpheniramine Maleate Syrup on Friday at around 7.45 pm from Thoubal Moijing Wangmataba.
As per police source, on Friday at around 7.45 pm a Thoubal Commando team, under the supervision of OC-CDO N. Tikendra and under the overall supervision of SP Thoubal S.Ibomcha, was on frisking and checking duty at Khekman Amakcham Leikai in connection with the security measures taken up for the upcoming Republic Day Celebration, 2021, to detect movements of anti-social elements.
The source continued that the commando team saw one person in a two-wheeler vehicle coming from Moijing side towards Thoubal Leishangthem side road. On seeing the presence of the police team the unknown person turned the vehicle and proceeded towards Moijing side. Immediately the police team chased the vehicle but the vehicle escaped by taking the advantage of darkness. During the turning of the vehicle one carton box fell down from the vehicle, the source mentioned.
The source said that the carton box was opened and thoroughly checked by observing proper formalities. On checking the police team found 5 (five) bundles of Codeine Phosphate and Chlorpheniramine Maleate Syrup bottles. On counting, four bundles were found containing 20 bottles each and 1 (one) bundle containing 19 bottles, altogether 99 bottles, the source disclosed.
In the meantime, the source said, the police team had learnt that the rider of the two wheeler was Md. Amar Khan, 27 years, son of Md. Tomba of Thoubal Moijing Wangmataba.
Accordingly, police teams including OC-CDO Thoubal rushed to the house of Md. Amar Khan and conducted house search. During the search, the police team detected a sum of Rs.1,50,000 contained inside a black carry bag mark as “FW FIREWORK ” which was concealed in a wooden almirah of the house which is suspected to be sale proceeds of illegal drugs items. The 99 bottles of Codeine Phosphate & Chlorpheniramine Maleate Syrup and the cash amount of Rs.1,50,000/- were seized by observing proper formalities and handed over to Thoubal PS for further necessary legal action.
On the other hand, Thoubal police commando conducted cordon and house to house search operations along with Thoubal PS team including women personnel at Thoubal Awang Leikai on Saturday as a preventive part of preventive security measures taken up for the upcoming Republic Day celebration 2021.
As per police source, the search started from 5 am and ended at 7:30 am.
In the operation around 80 houses were searched thoroughly and around 360 persons both men and women were checked and verified properly.
