IMPHAL: Chief minister said that state government has asked IGAR(South) to hand over the rowdy rifleman of 12 Assam Rifles, who allegedly assaulted, molested a lady IPS officer physically.
Chief Minister told reporters on the sideline of the statehood day function held at 1st MR on Tuesday.
Responding to a query, the Chief Minister, while terming the incident unfortunate, said that legal action will be definitely taken up against the accused AR man if investigation proves him guilty. He has communicated with the state DGP on the issue. As an FIR has been registered against the AR personal, IGAR(South) has been asked to hand over the accused personal to state police for investigation and trial, he added.
Notably, Ms Anupam, IPS officer, posted as SDPO at Yairipok PS was allegedly assaulted, harassed and molested physically by a rifleman of 12 AR at Khudengthabi when the lady cop officer accompanied by her security escort were returning from Moreh after an official duty.
Following the incident, the lady officer lodged a complaint to the Tengnoupal PS seeking action against the AR man. Moreh police registered an FIR against the personal following the complaint and asked the AR authority to hand over the accused personal.
On Monday, a team of Moreh PS went to Khudengthabi AR post urging to hand over the accused personal. However, AR authority reportedly denied handing over of the Jawan to the police, citing the accused personal had been carried away to an undisclosed location.
