ICDS Project Imphal-1 Sawombung conducts a Jan Andolan on Poshan

Imphal: As a part of the Rastriya Poshan Maah, the Jan Andolan on Poshan cum Local for Poshan programme was organized by ICDS Project Imphal East-1 Sawombung at Sambei Community Hall on Wednesday.

While delivering the keynote address, DPO of ICDS Cell Imphal L. Indira said that different programmes of Rastriya Poshan Maah have been organised till date. She said that their main emphasis is on providing nutritious food to the pre-school children and ensuring that they are healthy. Anganwadi workers are undertaking the task of examining the children whether their weight is in proportion to their ages in order to safeguard them and prevent anemia. An additional drive which is part of the programme is on planting saplings of fruit bearing trees and plants in every anganwadi centre and villages, she said.

She said that the state has been constrained to investing so much money due to shortages of having our own mineral sources and for procurement of the same. To improve the situation, let us all plant trees bearing fruits that are rich in minerals like papaya, bananas etc, which will help in providing healthy life to the pre-scholars age group and build a healthy society, she added.

DC Rangitabali Waikom said that we should give our best effort to make sure that the saplings that were planted in connection with the programme grow into fully developed trees. She placed the onus on the anganwadi workers and helpers to see to that the trees reach their maturity and bear fruits. The DC also appealed to the club in the respective villages to cooperate with anganwadi workers and helpers serving their locality for further development in every segment of the children.

She further made a fervent prayer to stop the indifferent treatment to the girl child. Equal treatment of the girl child, similar to how the boys are treated, is needed, she said, reminding that the responsibility taken by the women in the society is so vast.

Deputy Commissioner of Imphal East Waikhom Rangitabali, President of Sambei Village Authority Nongthombam Thoiba, Secretary of Sambei Youth Club Nongthombam Bobby, President of Sambei Women Welfare Association Elangbam Pishakmacha, former President of Sambei Youth Club Nongmaithem Rabei, DPO of ICDS Cell Imphal L. Indira, and DPO of ICDS Project Imphal-1 Sawombung Devananda Meetei and Joint director of ICDS Social Welfare Bantee Konthoujam attended as dignitaries of the programme.

At the mela of Local Poshan, many plants which have rich mineral content were displayed on the day. A medical checkup was carried out on all the children present on the day to check whether they are afflicted with anemic diseases or not.

As a part of the programme, DC Waikhom Rangitabali flagged off the “Breed with Pride Campaign Go” to spread the news of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao.
