I-Day celebration at Kpi peaceful amid boycott call and pandemic COVID-19

KANGPOKPI: With the sleepless efforts of the District Administration and 24×7 vigilance of security personnel including the district police, 38 Assam Rifles Kangpokpi Post and the local bodies, the 74th India’s Independence Day celebration at Kangpokpi District Headquarters ended peacefully.

Despite the boycott and shutdown called by two Kuki militant outfits belonging to a non-SoO group, India’s Independence Day was celebrated DC office campus peacefully however with minimal attendance owing to the pandemic COVID-19 crisis.

The celebration begin at around 9:15 am when Somorjit Salam, IAS, Deputy Commissioner Kangpokpi, who graced the occasion as Chief Guest have the Guard of Honour and inspection of the single parade from the police department accompanied by M. Hemant Pandey, IPS, SP Kangpokpi and set the mood by hoisting and unfurling the tricolor amidst the District Level Officers from various department in the district.

MPS Sony S.G. Sang, DSP Kangpokpi led the single contingents in the Rashtriya Salute under the fluttering tri-colour which the Chief Guest honestly received the salutation standing by the podium flanked by the District Superintendent Police.

Gracing the important national event for the first time after posting in the District from Senapati, Somorjit Salam, IAS, while addressing the gathering recalled how India got Independence from British colonialism and pay highest tribute to all the freedom fighters who set the nation free from the mighty British colonialism.

Exhorting the people of Kangpokpi District, the IAS officer said that as our forefathers stood firmly against the colonial power and got freedom we all must stand together with patience and perseverance at this hour of health crisis while adding that only with collective efforts the deadly pandemic virus can be defeated.

He also encourage the people of Kangpokpi not to be deter out of many challenges during the fight against the pandemic rather rise to the occasion and fight against the dreaded virus from spreading further and creating more inconveniences and hindrances  in our lives.

He further motivate the people to follow necessary advice and protocols so as to stop the virus from spreading further while urging the people to pledge on the auspicious occasion of India’s Independence Day to fight together with collective efforts to defeat the pandemic.

The IAS officer also acknowledged the immense contribution of the frontline workers from various departments, civil society organizations, village authorities, women society, youths, town committee, etc. in the fight against the pandemic while recognizing and appreciating the contribution of local churches stating that it obviously exhibit that they really stands for humanity services.

Apart from many others individual and organizations who have rendered commendable services and help to the District Administration in the fight against the pandemic, seventeen individuals including Addl.SP (Ops), Kangpokpi, Lalminlen Misao, MPS, Tongbram Oken Singh, OC Fire Sub Station Kangpokpi, Dr. Paotinlal Haokip, MS i/c District Hospital, Kangpokpi, MOs and CMOs of various health centres, KYU, KWWO, KCC, KBC Centre Church, Kangpokpi, TBA-I Kangpokpi, etc. were awarded with appreciation certificate during the auspicious occasion.
