Husband, brother remanded to police custody in death of young housewife

IMPHAL: Angry locals of a deceased housewife and her family members attacked the accused husband and his younger brother when they were being produced before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West on Tuesday afternoon.

The husband Ayekpam Chinglensana, 27, is the accused and his younger brother Ayekpam Naocha, 21, son of Janeshowor of Takyel Khongbal Leirak Achouba, who was arrested on the charges of abetment to commit and other charges of IPC, were produced before the court along with the prayer for remanding them into police custody remand for further investigation of the case.

Locals of the deceased housewife and other family members gathered at Cheirap Court complex on getting information that the alleged accused and his husband will produce before the court.

The security personnel deployed at Cheirap court complex prevented angry locals from going inside the court complex looking after the situation.

Later, the alleged accused persons were brought to Cheirap court complex by a team of Lamphel police station along with the prayer for three days’ police custody remand. On the other hand, counsels of the accused persons filed remand objection along with an application for releasing on bail.

The IO of the case through the APP submitted that the accused husband and his younger brother were arrested yesterday night after they surrendered themselves before Lamphel Police Station in connection with the case.

On February 14, the IO of the case received information from Imphal west control room at around 2.30 am that one Chongtham Ningol Ayekpam Ongbi Marina Devi of Takyel Khongbal Leirak Achouba was found hanging in the bedroom of her husband house and evacuated to RIMS hospital for medical treatment but was declared brought dead by the doctor on duty at around 2.00 am and a regular UD case was registered earlier for investigation.

On the same day a team of Forensic Science Unit of Imphal West in presence of executive magistrate conducted the inquest of the crime scene and also conducted inquest of the death body as identified by accused husband and elder brother of the victim and the post mortem was also conducted of the dead body with full video coverage.

On February 16 at around 8 pm elder brother of victim lodged a complaint he had full suspicion that her husband, his younger brother and elder sister Ayekpam Ichan were involved as her sister had reported them carrying out activities to torture her at the time while she was staying at her matrimonial home and hence a regular FIR case was registered against them.

The IO of the case through APP prayed for taking the alleged accused persons into three days’ police custody remand so as to collect further evidence to substantiate the charges against the accused persons.

The court on perusal of the case record and after hearing the submission of alleged accused persons found satisfied with the police prays for investigation of the case and thus rejected the bail applications filed by the alleged accused persons and remanded them into 3 days’ police custody remand till February 20.

Angry locals who were gathered outside and inside the court complex attack the accused while they were being brought out from the court room by a police team and pelted slippers, water bottles and other stuffs toward the police vehicle taking them away.
