IMPHAL: In a swift action of Manipur Police regarding a hit and run case, a team of Police personnel of Moirang Police Station has seized the vehicle involved in the case while conducting frisking and checking at Moirang Police Station Gate on Thursday around 8:50 am.
The seized vehicle is an Alto car being registration number MN06 LA 6547.
According to police sources, the Alto car was detained for verification while coming from Ningthoukhong side towards Moirang as the vehicle had a suspected damaged windshield and front portion.
The driver of the vehicle identified as one Paonam Ramachandra, son of Kamni of Tronglaobi Mayai Leikai was detained for verification, where he stated that the vehicle was brought to his workshop for repair.
On enquiry about the missing bumper Ramachandra stated that the bumper was damaged and is lying at his workshop.
The police team then collected the broken piece of bumper from his workshop and compared it with a piece of broken bumper seized from the spot of a hit and run case.
On further checking, it was found that the broken front bumper exactly matched with the broken piece of bumper which was seized.
Thus, it could be established that it was the very vehicle involved in the hit and run case.
Further the owner of the car who was also driving the vehicle is identified as Oinam Surash Singh (41 years), son of (L) O. Mangi @ Mangijao Singh of Ningthoukhong Ward No. 13, who is the accused has been arrested and further investigation is under progress, the source added.
Mention may be that on Wednesday last (June 17, 2020) a person namely Hemam Manichandra Singh (55), son of (L) H. Hemaiba Singh of Moirang Okshongbung Leikai was hit by a vehicle at around 7.45 pm of the same day at Oksongbung and died on the spot.
Moirang Police Station took up a case under FIR No. 33(6)2020 MRG-PS in connection with the hit and run incident and has been making all efforts to arrest the culprit along with the vehicle.
