Hiroshima and Nagasaki Day observed

Imphal: In commemoration of the atomic bombings on Japan in 1945, the Manipur Tourism Forum (MTF) observed Hiroshima and Nagasaki Day at Imphal Peace Museum located at Maibam Lotpa Ching at Nambol under Bishnupur district on Tuesday.  

Education Minister Th. Bashantakumar Singh,  Manipur University  Vice Chancellor Prof  N. Lokendra Singh, Bishnupr district Deputy Commissioner l Lourembam Bikram and MTF President Kh. Krishanan were the presidium members of the event.

As a mark of respect to those who perished in  Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings, a two-minute silence was observed at the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, Education Minister Th. Basantakumar said that it is a pride of Manipur and the country as well that a peace museum was built in the State. He recounted that atom bombs destroyed Japan’s cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki by the Allied Forces on August 6 and 9 to end the World War II.  

The dignitaries present at the event spoke in detail about the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings.  A book titled “The Story of Paper Crane Girl-Sadako Sasaki” authored by Dr. Khangembam Samungou was also released to mark the occasion.
