TRAU FC defeat Churchill Brothers by a solitary goal
Imphal: TRAU FC Manipur earned three full points after defeating Churchill Brothers Goa by a solitary goal on Wednesday at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium in the Hero I-League 2019-20.
With the win, TRUA FC are 8th in the table with 19 points after 16 matches and saved from relegation zone while Churchill Brothers move down to 4th place with 20 points from 14 matches.
The home team TRAU FC got their winning goal after scoring from the penalty spot in the second half through Patrick Oguchi Uche.
As the match started, both teams could not settle team position in the initial time though the visiting team got two corners but failing to convert it. TRAU FC also found a chance in the 6th minute but Joseph sent the ball over the cross bar. So all, both teams were blanked in the first half and ended in goalless draw.
In the second half, TRAU FC almost led through Netrajit only for his ball to only hit the bar. However, in the 77th minute the home team found the breakthrough through a penalty by Patrick Oguchi Uche which was awarded when Robert Junior of CB committed a serious on Joseph. Following the goal, the home team tried to add to the goal tally but could not do so.
TRAU were helped by the fact that the visiting teams lost communication and began furious argument with their coach. Churchill tried hard in a short period to equalize and got their best chance in the additional time in corner but Plaza and Ceesay failed to convert goal.
In the match Krishnanda, Princewill Emeka and S. Dinesh of TRAU FC while Ponif Vaz of Churchill Brothers were shown yellow cards.
