IMPHAL: The Ethno Heritage Council (HERICOUN) has appealed to all buyers to ask for cash memo while purchasing daily essential items/materials in order to avoid traders selling their items at inflated prices taking the opportunity of the lockdown.
General Secretary of HERICOUN Yumkhaibam Surjitkumar said the statement while briefing to reporter at its office, Konung Mamang on Friday.
Addressing media persons, he said that most of the public in the state are daily wages earners, and at the same time, people in the state have been facing different difficulties and suffering with the disruption from Covid-19 lockdown. Amid this situation, the price of the essential items is being sold at twice the normal rates, which is bringing more suffering to the people particularly the daily wage earners.
He further said that considering the suffering, the officials and volunteers of HERICOUN have discussed the matter with the state government with the participation of wholesalers, dealers and stockists regarding the hike in price currently in the State on numerous occasions.
It was informed that, a joint meeting was hold comprising of representatives of wholesalers, dealers, stockists etc on July 8, which had resolved unanimously to give cash memo to every buyer in order to control the selling price of the items/materials starting from all wholesalers. The cash memo was meant to work as evidence to identify whether the retailers/grocery shops are selling at hiked price or not and as well as it will be a witness and extend help in giving punishment as per the law. He appealed to all people in the state to ask for cash memos while purchasing any item from the grocery shops/retailers/stores. It was said that the organization will be starting checking about the price hike in sale of essentials items in retailers/grocery shops/stores, said the general secretary of HERICOUN.
