IMPHAL: Health Director Dr K Rajo Singh has clarified that Thoubal District Hospital has no any record that the woman who died in delivery in Thoubal had attended the District Hospital for treatment.
In a video message, the Health Director said that Thoubal district has become the hotspot of Covid-19 outbreak and the delivery of the pregnant woman must have been performed at her home by a local Maibi (midwifery) as family feared Covid-19 outbreak and cross infection in the hospital. The fatal incident took place as the ill-fated woman delivered the baby at home rather than being brought to the hospital, the director said.
The Director made the clarification in the backdrop of social media report that the woman died as Hospital denied treatment. Such allegation is very unfortunate, the Director said and appealed to the people not to be misled.
He said that all Hospitals including Thoubal duistrict hospital are providing treatment to both the Covid and non-Covid patients. That Hospitals are providing treatment to the people is evident from the fact that even some doctors have tested positive for Covid-19. 100 bedded Covid care centre is also functioning inside the complex of the District hospitals, Medical professionals are fighting a life or deathbattle now. There is no question as to why the doctors who are treating the Covid patients should not treat other non-Covid patients, he added.
He recalled that he had earlier issued an order directing all hospitals/health care centres to remain open all the time and conduct routine immunization. Department will take action when the people lodge any written complaint regarding closure of the health centres, the director said.
State Government is fighting the Covid-19 pandemic with its limited resources. Despite limited resources, Government has set up Covid care centres. One Covid care centre at Lamboikhongnangkhong has been inaugurated today by the Chief Minister today. Government does not confine only in treatment of Covid patients, Rajo asserted.
The director, however, confessed that there might be some irresponsible doctors while treating the people.
Notably, Thoudam Ongbi Malemnganbi (27), wife of Thoudam Shanit of Thoudam Mamang Leikai in Thoubal district died in delivery on Sunday morning. She reportedly expired at about 11:00 AM due to excessive bleeding after the delivery a baby boy.
