IMPHAL: The Observance Committee, 19th The Great June Uprising, Unity Day, 2020 has formed a Core Committee comprising of four members from the UCM and AMUCO. The observance committee has elected UCM president Sunil Karam as Chairman, AMUCO president Ph. Nando Luwang as vice-chairman, AMUCO general secretary L. Laishram Thoithoi Khuman as convenor, and UCM general secretary Khuraijam Athouba as co-convenor of the core committee.
Addressing media persons during a press meet held at AMUCO Head Office, Kwakeithel on Wednesday Chairman of the Core Committee Sunil Karam said that the observation committee comprising of AMUCO and UCM has been organizing The Great June Uprising, Unity Day to commemorated all the martyrs (18 persons) who had sacrificed their precious lives in the year 2001 to reaffirm the resolution to safeguard the territorial integrity of the State. Same as in previous years, the observation committee, 19th The Great Uprising, Unity Day, 2020 will be organizing at Kekrupat.
He further said that this year the observation will be little bit different from the previous years because as everyone have knowledge that due to the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic across the world and increasing numbers of positive cases in Manipur, and restriction of mass gathering, the observance committee had decided to observe in the presence of the members of observance committee and family members of the martyrs and the ceremony for floral tributes will be observed this year under strict maintenance of Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), said the Core Committee Chairman.
He appealed to all stakeholders in the state to observe the important day for this year in each locality under the guidance of its respective clubs, meira paibis lup etc in a symbolic way. The observation programme will be broadcasted live widely on television and the committee will also organize a “Saitharol” inviting famous singers of the state in dedication to all martyrs. He appealed to all citizens to extend their support and cooperation and avoid differentiation between the communities to safeguard our otherland. He further appealed to all communities in the state to stand in unity and fight against the external force coming towards us to separate our loving co-existence.
On the other hand, vice-Chairman of Core Committee Ph. Nando Luwang said that there will be no privilege of blood donation camp on 19th the Great June Uprising, Unity Day, 2020 due to the current situation although the programme was organized every year at Kekrupat on the day. This year a blood donation camp will be organized in two medical institutions, RIMS and JNIMS, with under strict maintenance of SOP given by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
As there is a restriction in two institutions, the committee will be taking only 20 blood donors per day. The blood donation camp will be started before the main observation, and if any volunteers want to donate blood voluntarily, including after the observation too, arrangement will be taken care of, added the vice-Chairman.
The intending donors can contact the Observance Committee Medical Team (OCMT) if they want to donate on the day of observation, Nando informed and gave his appreciation to all the groups or individuals who have carried out social service camps in connection with June 18 observance and those organizations who want to carry out such camps in connection with 19th The Great June Uprising, Unity Day, 2020 with an advice to strictly follow and maintain the protocols and directives from the government.
