IMPHAL: Khwairamband Nupi Keithel, Sinpham and Shaktam Kanba Lup have urged the government to consider the fact that saving the people’s living and livelihood is integral to Covid-19 combat strategy.
In a press release jointly issued by both organisations, it was stated that the very human survival has been put in total jeopardy as they have lost their only means of their income and sustenance from the Ema Keithel due to lockdown situation. They recounted that the government has closed down both Ema Keithel since March 20 due to this pandemic, and if the government open up these main markets without analysing the present situations thoroughly, than it might result to uselessness of all the hardships that have taken charges with dedications and sacrifices of frontline workers including Health department, security personnel, Doctors and Nurses etc.
The press release further stated that there are high chances of the threat of community spreading of the virus due to increase in numbers of positive cases. Maintaining social distancing within the Ema Keithel doesn’t seem to be an easy task to follow, and therefore appealed the authority to keep the closure of the main markets accordingly to the seriousness of the conditions of Covid-19 cases in the state, added the press release.
The collective statement on the press release further reminded the government to fulfill its promises of helping the market vendors who were earning their daily wages from the marketplace.
