IMPHAL: The Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK), Chandel has observed the Global Hand Washing Day at Chakpikarong block in Chandel district on Thursday.
In a press release signed by the District Youth Coordinator of NYK, Chandel Ng. Rameson Monsang stated that as the Covid-19 pandemic has become a health concern for everyone, and the need for sanitation and self-hygiene has become an indomitable part of a person’s life. However, many youths and children still have not given much importance to hand washing, he said.
Through the event NYK, Chandel taught children and youths in the rural areas to give utmost importance to hand washing. Children and youths present at the event were taught the various skills and methods of hand washing with alcohol-based gel or soap. They were taught of the health benefits of washing hands every now and then especially after going out and before going out. It also emphasized on creating awareness for prevention of Covid-19.
NYK Chandel also conducted Covid-19 intervention programs at Monsang Pantha with the participation of the youths, children and parents who took the pledge to follow Covid-19 appropriate behaviours like wearing face masks, frequent hand washing and maintaining social distance. The organisation also urged people not to venture in crowded public places unless there is urgent work and to follow the state SOPs.
