G. Molecule arrested, weapon recovered; victim’s sister appeals for stricter procedure for authorization of gun license

TMB Report

Imphal: In a major breakthrough, a team of Imphal West CDO led by its OC P. Achouba has arrested G. Molecule Sharma, accused in the murder of his nephew over land dispute. He was arrested around 8:30 Tuesday morning near KFC, Thangmeiband.

The double barrel gun used in the crime has also been seized.

The 71-year old had been absconding since Saturday after he allegedly murdered his 35-year old nephew, Gurumayum Suraj, reportedly over land dispute.

The victim is the son of Gope and was working as a JTO with BSNL.

As per reports, Molecule shot his nephew with his licensed double barrel gun and fled the scene in a van. The deceased suffered bullet wounds in his hand and chest and was taken to Raj Medicity at North AOC but succumbed to his injuries.

Meanwhile, the elder sister of G. Suraj Kumar has demanded that the concerned authorities should follow a stricter process for authorisation of licensed guns to civilians and conveyed the JAC’s appreciation to the state government, home department and the local MLA Speaker Y. Khemchand.

The statement was said by G Sunalata, the elder sister of the gunfire victim Suraj during a press meet held at Singjamei Chingamathak Ngakraba Leikai on Tuesday.

Addressing media persons, Sunalata Devi said that his uncle G. Molecule started the dispute in 2012 and an FIR complaint was lodged for pointing to shot with his license barrel gun to G. Suraj in 2013 and for the second time in 2015. But unfortunately, even after continuous complaints, the concerned authority has yet to pick up his license gun till date, recounted the elder sister. She said that if the authorities had picked up his (Molecule) licensed gun in time such a tragic incident would not have happened.

My brother will not come back again but let his tragic faith not fall on any individual or family in our state. Let his incident be the last such one and let the concerned authority learn a lesson from the bloody incident, she stated with grief.

When the earlier incident of Molecule pointing his gun at her brother took place, the matter was reported to the police on numerous occasions. Once the officer in charge of the police station shot them very rudely whether they wanted to terminate from work. From that day they decided not to approach the police station again, informed Sunalata.

To avoid another sad incident, let the concerned authorities take timely action and carry out an investigation at the right time.  Let the provision of permitting licensed guns be finalised after scrupulous checking, added Sunalata.

“We do not want mob justice, like vandalizing the house and property so we decided to pursue only the legal course,” she added.

Advisor of JAC against Brutal Killing of G. Suraj Sharma S. Shyamcharan informed that the JAC had demanded to the state government that if the culprit is not arrested within 48 hours then the body will not be claimed. It may be mentioned that a video call conference was held with the chief minister, Y. Khemchand, JAC and family members participated on November 23 evening.

On that day as requested by the state government, the JAC decided to accept the dead body of G. Suraj. But fortunately, information from the home department was received about the arrest of the culprit Molecule on Tuesday at around 8.35 AM morning in some area of Thangmeiband. Shyamcharan gave appreciation from the side of JAC to the state government, home department and its local representative Y. Khemchand. He further extended his thankfulness to the state government for performing immediate action as they have promised to the JAC and family members on November 23 evening. He appealed to the state government to give befitting punishment to the killer.
