Bishnupur: The Loktak Project Pump House No. 1 which had resumed functioning on May 11, 2020, after 15 years, due to the initiatives of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh and was meant to supply water to four LLI canals, has stopped functioning after rain hit the state.
Farmers questioned why the very pump house has been stopped only days after it begun re-functioning to supply water on May 11, 2020.
This reporter came across a JCV inside the office campus during a visit to take stock of the situation at the LLI pump house no. 1 at Loktak project. Many farmers were left wondering whether the JCV was brought to dig the canals of LLI.
A farmer named T. Ibungo of Ngakhong Siphai appreciated Chief Minister N. Biren Singh for letting the farmers dream of new hopes by making the LLI Pump house no. 1 re-function, after 15 years, and appealed to the Chief Minister to ensure availability of water in abundance and non-stop.
During an exclusive meeting with the members of Loktak Lift Irrigation Farmers Development Committee Bishnupur at the office of the Committee, its advisor S. Nilakomol said that farmers were pleased after Chief Minister made the pump house re-function and supply of water began. However, the farmers are now devastated as the pump house has stopped functioning and urged the authorities to resume the supply of water without any interruption.
Secretary of the Committee Kh. Oken, Treasurer L. Premila and other members were also present during the exclusive meeting.
Mention may be that MLA of Oinam A/C and also Chairman of Manipur Pollution Control Board L Radhakishore on the day of the re-functioning of the pump house, has said that technical equipment of the pump will be installed within the current season and by the year 2021 the pump will become fully functional.
The MLA had also maintained that it will not be possible that all the requirement of the farmers will be fulfilled this year itself, but he will try his level best to meet them.
On the other hand, farmers farming near the canal are waiting with high hopes for the pump to function fully.
