Four individuals in contact with COVID-19 positive Pradhan of Moijing GP test positive

THOUBAL: Four persons who had been in close contact with the Covid-19 positive Pradhan of Moijing GP were found to be infected with the virus too on Thursday.

Today, a medical team of Thoubal district under the supervision of the district administration conducted antigen rapid test on 27 family members and close contacts of the pradhan during which four of them were found positive for the contagion. One of them is reported to be a member of Moijing GP. However, the wife and three children of the pradhan returned negative when their samples were tested.

On the other hand, after three volunteers at community quarantine centres in Thoubal district were found Covid-19 positive, another male volunteer at IIT CQC in Lilong was detected to be infected with the virus. He was picked up from his home by a district medical team and admitted at Covid Care Centre at Thoubal.

Deputy commissioner of Thoubal N Bandana convened an emergency meeting of district level officers where the officials concerned were instructed to carry out a more intensified and vigilant strategy to combat the pandemic in the district.

On the other hand, actions have been taken up for contact tracing and identification of all the close contacts of the three infected volunteers of CQCs at Thoubal, Khangabok and Lilong Assembly Constituencies.

According to reports received from the chief medical officer, Thoubal, trails were conducted for the rapid antigen testing at the new lab in the district today. With the furnishing of the testing facilities, close contact of patients and suspects can find out the status of the virus within half an hour through testing at the district’s lab itself. According to official report, 83 persons from the district have been found to be Covid-19 positive till yesterday night, but the number of active cases is 32 with 51 of them having recovered.

Meanwhile, meira paibi groups of Thoubal Khunou have denounced the administration for the incident when a personnel of CRPF from the locality was found to be positive of Coronavirus in follow up test after he was discharged and sent home from Tangjengi Tangjeng Ningthou Flowers School Community Quarantine Centre on July 14 last after certification of being negative of the virus. District authorities have now put him at Covid Care Centre, Thoubal after picking him up from his home.

During a press meet held at Thoubal Khunou Keithel Macha, the president of Thoubal Khunou Apunba Meira Paibi Lup Tayenjam ongbi Rita said the experience of the local patient is proof of utter negligence on part of the authority. She wondered how an inmate who was given discharge certificate was picked up from his residence on the next day as his result had reverted. According to the local leader, as a fallout of the official’s carelessness the Thoubal Khunou area has been declared as containment zone by the District Magistrate and the village whose population are predominantly poor is thrown into a delicate situation. She requested that the government take care of the essential needs of the villagers as long as the area is classified as containment zone. The family members and close contacts of the patient should also be tested, she added.
