Four gang rape accused remanded into judicial custody till April 3

IMPHAL; The four accused in the gang rapd case of a married woman on March 7, 2020 at Uripok were produced before the court of Judicial Magistrate, First Class Imphal West-I and remanded into judicial custody till April 3, 2020.

The accused persons are Karnajeet Konsam,30 years, S/o Joykumar of Khagempalli Huidrom Leikai, Ningombam Johnson,29, S/o Iboyaima of Sagolband Mutum Leikai, Yengkokpam Hemachandra, 36, S/o Ibocha of Charangpat Maning Maklang, Thoubal and Phijam Vivigiri, 33, S/o Tombi of Kairembikhok Awang Leikai. They were produced before the court after the completion of further police custody remand of three days along with the prayer for remanding in judicial custody for smooth investigation of the case.

Rattana Ngasepam Additional SP Investigative Unit Crime against Women Imphal West who is also the IO of the case, through the APP submitted that on March 8, the victim lodged a written complaint stating that on March 7 at around 3.30 pm she was sexually assaulted by them at an unknown place.

During the course of investigation, the arrested persons admitted the charges leveled against them and also recorded the statement of victim under 161 CrPC where the victim stated that she was forcibly sexually assaulted by four persons against her inside the rented house of one of the accused Yengkokpam Hemachandra.

Further, the police team seized inner garments of the accused persons and investigation is in full swing. Blood sample for DNA of the four men are yet to be sent for identification at a competent laboratory for establishing the offence committed. Further, a two wheeler which was allegedly used by one of the accused in commission of the crime is yet to be seized and thus prayed for further judicial custody remand of the four persons in the interest of investigation.

The court on perusal of the case recorded and after the submission of the IO of the case was satisfied with the police prayer and thus remanded the accused persons into judicial custody till April 3, 2020.
