Imphal Minister Radheshyam flays media report, says visit aims at strengthening Govt

TMB Report

IMPHAL: Four BJP ministers left for the national capital on Friday to meet party Central leaders. The ministers who had headed for New Delhi were Education Minister Th Radheshyam, Works Minister Th Bishwajit, Social Welfare minister Nemcha Kipgen, and Agriculture Minister V Hangkhanlian.

Before leaving Imphal, the ministers also met the Governor. However, it is yet to be ascertained as to what they had discussed in the meeting.

Amid the media reports about the dissidence erupting within the Government yet again allegedly for replacement of the incumbent Chief Minister N Biren, the visit of the BJP ministers to the national capital is quite crucial.

Education Minister before leaving Imphal told reporters at BT International Airport that the main purpose of their visit is to strengthen the BJP led coalition in the state and not to topple the Government.

There are only five BJP ministers including the Chief Minister in the coalition Government. For the last three four months ever since the COVID-19 lockdown began, the ministers of the state have lost the opportunity to meet and apprise concerned Union Ministers about the issues the departments are facing except interacting through video conferencing. Government departments including his Education department are now facing problems in terms of funds. Even as the Government has completed three years, such a team of ministers have never visited the national capital to call on the Union Ministers.

Refuting media reports, the minister clarified that they were not visiting New Delhi with the intention to topple the Government. We four Ministers cannot topple the Government. Our Delhi visit is to strengthen the Government. We will meet the concerned Union Ministers and apprise them about the issues all Government departments are facing, he added.

Agriculture Minister V Hangkhanlian said that state’s ministerial team will meet the Union Ministers and BJP national leaders and urge them for strengthening of the Government.

There is no question of lobbying with the Central leadership to affect a reshuffle of ministers in the Government. We will only apprise them about the situation of the state.

Works Minister Th Bishwajit said that they are visiting the national capital to meet central leaders and to celebrate BJP’s victory at the recently concluded Rajya Sabha elections.
