IMPHAL: Former MLA of Naoriya Pakhanglakpa AC RK Anand has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday.

Party’s state president Prof S Tikendra warmly welcomed the new face in the party.

Denied Congress ticket for Lok Sabha election, RK Anand had left the party in March 2019 and joined the regional party NEIDP. He contested the last Lok Sabha election on the NEIDP ticket and fared poorly. Later, he left the party and remained silent without affiliating to any party.

S Tikendra said that the party always welcomes the joining of prominent political leaders. Joining of new faces in the party is clear evidence that the saffron party still maintains public trust. Everybody can join the party. However, persons with criminal records, individuals below 18 years of age, individuals with dual membership and indiscipline are not allowed to be members of the party, he said.

The State BJP Chief also lauded the Prime Minister for his bold assurance to provide free rice to the needy and COVID-19 affected people of the country till November this year under PM Garib Kalyan Yojna.

This scheme can be regarded as one of the biggest schemes in the world amidst the COVID-19 battle, he added.
