IMPHAL: Three individuals who allegedly supplied intoxicants and edible items to inmates Diligent Public School quarantine centre have been quarantined at the Moirang Multipurpose Higher Secondary School quarantine centre. Another two persons were held with tobacco products meant for delivery to an inmate at St. Xavier School quarantine centre.
Sources said that centre at Diligent Public School, Moirang was announced a containment zone by the concerned District Administration after it reported 34 Covid-19 positive cases in a single day. The trio allegedly sneaked into the said quarantine centre to supply the said items to some inmates there even though the results of their samples for the contagion are still being awaited.
Locals of Khoiru Leikai Moirang ward No. 10 rounded up the trio on Wednesday and paraded them before SDO Morang and OC Moirang PS. Latter, they were admitted to the community quarantine centre at Moirang Multipurpose Higher Secondary School, said the source.
The three individuals were identified as Molecule, Suraj and Inaoba of Khoiru Leikai Moirang. They are between the ages of 21 to 23 years. Their family members and close contacts have also been advised to undergo home quarantine for 14 days. Local people will keep a vigil on the movement of the family members, added the source.
Moirang Police Station OC RK Anilkumar appealed to the persons who are taking home quarantine not to violate quarantine protocols. It is not possible for the police to keep vigil on everyone round the clock. People need to be aware of the protocols and join the collective fight against COVID-19, he stated.
The police officer also lauded the locals for their support and appealed to the people to avoid supplying items to the inmates, cautioning that the state would face a disaster if community transmission takes place.
SDO Moirang Ch. Somorendro, OC Moirang RK Anilkumar, MAMPIL president K. Padamo , Moirang ward no 1 Councilor L. Chitramani, Ward no. 10 councilor M. Bina, MAMPIL secy. N. Thaba Devi also attended the meeting.
On the other hand two persons were stopped at the gate of St. Xavier School quarantine centre namely when they were trying to hand over 7 pieces of Talap, one Win packet and 4 pieces of pan to an inmate from Kwakta Khuman Ward No 5 G/P. They were identified as Md. Ajimuddin (31), son of Md. Ayajuddin of Kwakta Khuman Ward No 5 G/P and Md. Anas Khan (22) son of late Md. Babu of Kwakta Khuman Ward No.4 G/P.
