IMPHAL: Bijayata Yumnam of EK Higher Secondary School who bagged the 3rd position in Arts stream of Class XII examination conducted by COHSEM will not recommend her juniors to concentrate heavily on tuitions classes forewarning that it would not guarantee scoring high grades.
During a press meet Bijaya informed that she had pursued her high school studies at Mira Public School, Canchipur. She was a brilliant student from her childhood and upto the 3rd standard she was top of the class every year. From the 4th standard till class 10 she occupied among the 1st to 4th positions in every annual examination, she said. She has nurtured a long cherished dream to one day ensure an affluent life for her parents Yumnam Muhindro and Y Ongbi Bala of Irom Meijrao, Imphal West District.
She expressed her interest to apply for Civil service examination and serve in the administrative service. Her other option is to work in the field of teaching profession as a Professor and making plans to pursue Bachelor degree in English honours. Bijaya wished to enroll at DM College in the state itself for her graduate course in her chosen stream.
In an emotional tone, she admitted feeling happiness and excitement for the examination results topping in the 3rd position which deemed is a natural reaction, but she is also constantly reminded of the difficulties the family had endured over the years due to poverty. Bijayata told that her mother used to earn daily wages working in fields and weaving clothes to run the household as her father cannot work due to an illness.
Her mother Bala remarked having mixed emotions of both happiness and sadness, stating that the results of her daughter being a topper made her proud and happy, but when thoughts crossed her mind about the monetary requirement for getting admission for her further studies, she faces a nightmare.
Her father Yumnam Muhindro said he have tears of joy but regretted inability to help his family due to health issues and depending almost for everything on his wife’s daily wages to run the family. He however said he was genuinely happy and proud of her daughter.
