IMPHAL: Imphal East District VDF Welfare Association has provided financial assistance of Rs.one lakh to the family of a deceased VDF volunteer named Md Belal Khan of Urup Khunou Awang leikai who passed away on March 14 in an unfortunate accident.
The financial assistance was provided by SDPO Lamlai Ksh Ravikumar Singh, IPS, Irilbung Police OC Ch Sarjan and representatives of the Imphal East District VDF Welfare Association under the supervision of Imphal East SP Jogeschandra Haobijam, IPS.
On the other hand, Thoubal District VDF Welfare Association also provided Rs.1.50 lakh to the family member of a deceased VFD volunteer Toijam Ranjit of Charangpat Nepra Company who passed away after an illness.
Thoubal DC Dr S Ibomcha, IPS, on Monday handed over the financial assistance to the victim family. The secretary (Admn) of the association Hidam Jiban in a statement demanded the government to provide proper remuneration to the VDF volunteers who are playing a pivotal role in maintaining law and order in the state for 24 hours a day. It is a tough task for the VDF men to maintain their families with the meager monthly remuneration of Rs.6730, he said.
Stating that the VDF personnel cannot accept the revised remuneration of Rs 9,500 as assured by the Chief Minister in the last Assembly session, it demanded that the remuneration issue be reviewed in the cabinet.
