Imphal: In a long term policy of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, 2058 athletes from all over the country have been selected for grooming for representing the country in the 2024 and 2028 Olympic events and bringing medals and fame for the country under the “Mission Olympic for India” policy.
The players were listed for 12 events namely Archery, Badminton, Boxing, Cycling, Judo, Weightlifting, Athletics, Rowing, Shooting, Table Tennis, Swimming and Wrestling.
Fifteen of the 2058 athletes are from Manipur spanning over 6 disciplines namely Archery, Badminton, Boxing, Cycling, Judo and Weightlifting. The selected players will be provided a pocket allowance of Rs. 25,000 each per month by Sports Authority of India (SAI).
The state players are M. Jameson in the Archery event (from among 34 players), Meiraba Luwang in Badminton (27), S. Barun and Md. Itash Khan in Men Category and N. Babyrojisana Chanu and T. Sanamacha Chanu for Women in Boxing (36), L. Ronaldo, K. James and Y. Rojit in Cycling (4), Bishan and L. Jagadish in Men and Ch. Linthoi and L. Sanathoi in Women in Judo (11), and T. Priyadashini and Sh. Bidyarani in Weightlifting (16).
