IMPHAL: As the state government failed to fulfill the demands of FEGOCTA after various formed of assurances regarding the final Cabinet approval for the full implementation of 7th UGC Pay and Regulations, 2020, the federation begin its relay hunger strike participants of ten voluntarily teachers from different government colleges on Saturday at NG College Complex, Uripok.

It is worth noting that the state government had given written assurance to the teachers’ federation on September 26, 2019, October 15, 2019 and November 27, 2019. Moreover, following that cease work strike, the cabinet in Principal approved FEGOCTA demands of 7th UGC Pay and Regulations, 2018 on November 29, 2020. Further, the representatives of FEGOCTA on November 30, 2019 had agreed broad terms of the implementation of 7th UGC Pay and Regulations, 2018 and a meeting was also hold with education minister in the presence of education (s) commissioner of higher education and director of university and higher education on February 2020.

After a deep discussion, vice-president of FEGOCTA Dr. RK. Indira said that the terms of the implementation of 7th UGC Pay and Regulations, 2018 were agreed during the meeting. The higher education department led by education minister had accepted the request of FEGOCTA for a final Cabinet approval in the next meeting. But after lots of assurances, the Cabinet is yet to give final approval for the full implementation of the 7th UGC Pay and Regulations, 2018, Indira said.

FEGOCTA is the only teachers’ body in the state demanding the implementation of per national policy of both the 7th UGC Pay and UGC Regulations, 2018. It is said that the FEGOCTA will boycott the PG examination from February 14.

Briefing to media persons, the relay hunger strike was a part of the agitations of teachers’ government colleges demanding full implementation of the 7th UGC Pay and Regulations, 2018. In the past, many assurances has been given through written and verbally but unfortunately there is no sign of action from the state government in the form of work or order issue till now.

She said that the relay hunger strike will kept on continue till the state government fulfill the demands of the federation. It is said that more teachers will be participating in the next relay hunger strike.
