Farmer’s meet held, Loktak Irrigation Development Farmers Association formed

Bishnupur: A Farmer’s meet to re-launch the irrigation system of Lokyak Lift Irrigation Project was held at Bishnupur on Friday.

A. Sanajaoba from Keinou, N. Sanajaoba and S. Nilakomol from Bishnupur, L. Damu from Kwashiphai, P. Lokendro from Thinungei, L. Premila from Ningthoukhong and O. Iboton from Oinam graced the meet as special guest.

An association for farmers named Loktak Irrigation Development Farmers Association was also formed during the meet.

Speaking at the meet, N. Sanajaoba from Bishnupur said that there are 4 canal for Loktak Lift Irrigation Project, however, the advantages that the farmers are to get from the 4 canal into their paddy fields which would let them produce double/triple cropping still lies in vain.

He said, due to non-functioning of the irrigation system, more than 40000 acres of paddy fields lies useless.

Sanajaoba said that there are no suitable staffs for the Loktak Lift Irrigation Project and BJP Election Campaign Committee of Bishnupur A/C are taking the whole responsibility even while releasing water into their paddy fields.

In-order to give advantages to the paddy fields which are lying useless, the association was formed to re-launch the lying functionless irrigation system of Loktak Lift Irrigation Project, he added.

S. Sanajaoba from Bishnupur, Th. Roshankumar from Oinam, Kh. Openchandra from Ningthoukhong, L. Kunjabihari from Sunu siphai has been selected as President and Secretaries while N. Ibopishak Meitei from Nachou and P. Ingocha from Bishnupur as Joint Secretaries and M. Bilkee from Bishnupur as Auditor and L. Premila from Bishnupur as Treasurer for the newly form Loktak Irrigation Development Farmers Association.
