IMPHAL: The All Manipur Students Union has described the demands of schools authorities for monthly fees from students in the middle of the calamity like situation of Covid-19 as most unfortunate.
In a press statement, the students’ union has demanded special attention from the government on this issue. In order to bring improvement of knowledge even during the lockdown, the union has been encouraging online classes and educational programmes on local TV channels from the past. The school authorities should stop demanding prior admission to the school with necessary payment before being given permission to log in to the online classes, maintained the union while announcing that it will be focusing on notification of such nature from the side of the school administration.
It also instructed the schools that monthly salaries should be adjusted from the school management fund or arranged by the school management board.
In consideration of the adverse circumstances the students are dealing with the government should release their pending scholarships and take up all possible measures to alleviate the sufferings of the school authorities, the union added in the statement.
Further, AMSU demanded that as soon as the lockdown is lifted, the Manipur Private Schools (Registration & Regulation) Act, 2017 and Boarding/Hostel Regulations Act, which have been its longstanding proposals, should be implemented.
