Imphal: Irate students of four constituent colleges under Dhanamanjuri University stormed the office of the Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the university over non-issuance of mark-sheets and non-declaration of the examination result. The incensed students also vandalized properties of the VC office. According to a report, enraged students of four colleges under the DM University who stormed the VC office belong to DM College of Arts, DM College of Science, DM College of Commerce and GP Women’s College. The students erupted in anger after the Vice-Chancellor refused to meet them to have a discussion on the matter.

Upon receiving the information that some students had stormed the VC office, a team of Imphal West District Police led by SP Dr. S. Ibomcha Singh and high ranking police officers rushed in and brought the situation under control. Later, a representative of the four colleges met with the university authority.

One of the student representatives of DM College of Arts namely Irom Dimocha who is also the Finance Secretary and General Secretary In-Charge told media persons that students of the four colleges have approached the university authority on multiple occasions to press the demand for declaration of the examination result and issuance of examination mark sheets for the 3rd and 4th semesters on time but the plea fell on deaf ears. He said that the result of the 1st semester for the Post Graduate is also yet to be declared. Dimocha further said that students also faced many inconveniences in submitting forms for scholarships as it required mark sheets. The university authority assured the student representatives to provide the mark sheets for the students who are seeking Ishan Uday scholarship. The authority also assured that the university will try to manage application of other scholarships by using reading certificates, he said.

However, the students felt suspicious as the university is charging Rs. 50 per student for availing reading certificates, he added.

 He warned of taking up intense forms of agitations if their demand is not fulfilled as assured by the university authority.
