DMCTE says in favour of a regular principal

TMB Report

IMPHAL: While welcoming the suggestions of student organizations for the welfare of the institute, the trainees union of D.M College Teacher Education (DMCTE) has informed that it will be making arrangement for a discussion on the matter with the students’ bodies in the near future and sought their cooperation.

In a press release, the union stated that it is also in favour of the appointment of a regular principal at the college, while informing that the in-charge principal was appointed in the month of March, 2006 as per a court order.

It is also said that the principal alone cannot authorize the merging of the college as a department of the DM University, mentioning that the realization of the matter needs a positive initiative of the government. The committee which was formed by the DMCTE was found to have been dissolved during the investigation made by the union. The teachers held a meeting discussing the agenda of abolition of B.Ed and M.Ed courses of DMCTE after 2030 if integrated courses are not opened as per NEP, 2019.

It differed with the teachers’ body assertion that the in-charge principal is responsible for the aggravation in management of the institute, stating that during their stay at the college the students have not encounter any evidence to substantiate the charge.

The recognition of the college has been withdrawn by the NCTE on the ground of inadequate numbers of regular teachers and as a result, the admission process for the current academic session could not proceed. The union held a protest on March 7, 2020 demanding filling up the vacancies of regular teachers, which have been a longstanding demand of the trainees for a long period of time.

Further, it added that the trainee’s union will soon be holding a meeting with all the concerned students’ organizations for discussing the developmental initiatives of the college.
