IMPHAL: The dismissal of AP Pandey from the post of Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University is a huge victory for the welfare of the students’, CSOs, teachers’ and the entire people of Manipur.
The statement was made by veteran politician M. Joy said during a press meet held at Manipur Press Club on Sunday.
Addressing media persons, he said that the dismissal was a significant outcome of the democratic movement taken up and voice raised by the entire students and teachers communities, CSOs and public as a whole in the state.
He shows his gratefulness to all the students’ unions, CSOs, teachers and public who had participated in the agitations demanding the removal of AP Pandey, adding that all stakeholders should show appreciation to each and every one of them.
He recalled the unfortunate incidents that happened inside the campus of university during the period of unrest during many students and others who were arrested and subjected to treatment given to criminals. The same time also witnessed an uncultured behavior of police personnel who paraded university teachers in handcuffs like criminals, he added.
At the same time, it may be mentioned that everyone was aware that the present state government was trying to defend the former VC AP Pandey despite the general call for his dismissal, said the firebrand leader.
The university is safe now after the dismissal of Pandey from the post of VC and those VC who are corrupted and found guilty of wrongdoings should be punished.
Regarding a question prepared by COHSEM in the ongoing examination to draw the election symbol of BJP, he said that it is very unfortunate to include matters of political nature in the question papers of students and termed it as a direct indication of politicization of education sector.
