IMPHAL: Manipur Government and three students’ bodies namely Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), All Tribal Students’ Union of Manipur (ATSUM) and Apunba Ireipakki Maheiroi Sinpanglup (AIMS) have entered into a six point – Memorandum of Understanding regarding appointment of native IAS officer as Chief Secretary of the state.
Sumant Singh, IAS, OSD to Chief Minister represented the Government of Manipur while signing of the Memorandum of understanding.
According to the MoU, State Government appreciates the patient, understanding and cooperative disposition of the student bodies towards outstanding issues of public importance with the Government. State Government acknowledges the reasonableness of Student Organisations’ demand for appointment of a native IAS officer to the post of Chief Secretary of Manipur from the indigenous people. However, in the light of the extant rules, instant appointment is not possible immediately, the memo stated.
It further stated that the State Government assures to consider the demand in due course of time without affecting the interest of the native officers.
State Government intends to examine these demands and their feasibility In the light of extant rules and regulations, the memo stated while adding state government assures that in future Government will give due consideration to these demands and concerns of Student Organisation and will consider them in the light of relevant laws, norms and rules.
The Student Organisations accordingly expressed their satisfaction over State Government’s above considerations and assure their cooperation and support to the Government on these issues.
