The Hill Tribal Council Moreh, Kuki Women Union & Human Rights Moreh, Kuki Students’ Organisation Moreh Block and Moreh Youth Club strongly condemn the daylight attack at the residence of Nemjahoi Haokip at Zion Veng Moreh Ward. No. 7 on Wednesday.
In a joint statement it was stated that the attack occurred at around 11:30 AM by unknown assailants who destroyed CCTV and took away one CCTV and damaged the fencing of the residential campus.
“It is very much unfortunate that the underground groups stationed at Moreh had been indulging in unwanted and uncalled activities which cause panic for the public. The CSOS of Moreh had been time and again appealing the UG groups to put a full stop to such activities amongst them but to no avail. The public had been living in fear of more such activities which could affect the peaceful environment of the town,” the statement informed.
The joint organisations ‘once again and for the last’ appealed to the groups or individuals behind the ransacking not to harm innocent people and not to repeat such activities in the vicinity of the public in future. The joint organisations also requested the concerned authorities to look into the matter to avert such incidents in future.
On the other hand, the Thadou Students’ Association (TSA), Tengnoupal Branch has vehemently condemned the incident saying some SoO signatory group and their cohorts attacked the residence of Nemjahoi Haokip, disturbing the peaceful environment of the town.
According to Namjahoi Haokip who reportedly confessed to the student body, some cadres of KNA/KNO along with two suspected Non-SoO organisation cadres led by Thanglen Baite, SDO/KNA, Moreh area and Seingam Haokip, Lance Corporal KNA/KNO, Moreh area residing in Lhangnom veng and Ngamkhai Veng respectively had attacked her residence destroying her properties in the absence of her husband. The assailants reportedly came in an unregistered white Gypsy carrying weapons.
It is also unfortunate to mention that, one of the attackers Seingam Haokip had threatened to shot her when asked about the reason for their abnormality, the TSA said in a statement. “The victim further told the student body that the criminals escaped the spot by threatening the locals who rushed after noticing the incident. The student body is shocked after meeting some locals in and around Zion Veng, Moreh and that, recently, there had been a grenade attack in the area where they suspect the involvement of the same persons who carried such inhuman attacked on Mrs. Namjahoi Haokip, the statement added.
The TSA Tengnoupal Branch said it would also like to question the ‘state of affairs’ in Moreh and ask the concern authorities to intervene and avoid further cascading effects. It is appalling to learn that concern authorities had remained a mute spectator in which carrying sophisticated weapons even in daylight and alleged involvement of Non-SoO group in the incident is very much disturbing and creating the ‘peace and tranquility’ of the town, TSA said.
The note further mentioned that the TSA Tengnoupal branch would like the concerned authority to investigate and deliver justice to the victims at the earliest and create an environment in Moreh free from any kind of “fear psychosis’ to the public. Therefore, the TSA Tengnoupal branch in good faith has requested the concerned authorities and like minded civil societies to join hands together in fighting against the untoward incidents arising out of different signatories groups so that ‘peace and tranquillity’ prevail in Moreh, it concluded.
