IMPHAL: The birth centenary celebration of former CPI (M) MLA from Khundrakpam Assembly constituency and close associate of Janneta Hijam Irabot, Yumlembam Kulla, which will be observed for a full year, was kicked off by state secretary of the party Kshetrimayum Santa at the inaugural function held at his residence at Uyumpok in Imphal East district.
Veteran party leader Ningthoujam Tomba was given the honour of hoisting the red flag at the inauguration and was among the comrades who led the laying of floral tributes to the bust of the former party legislator.
Party leader Sarat Salam gave the welcome address and briefed the gathering about the essence of organising a full year observation on the centenary year of Yumlembam Kulla’s birth. He provided a glimpse into the itinerary of the celebration and informed that functions will be held all over the state.
Inaugurating the centenary observation, Ksh Santa stated that due to absence of ideology the present day legislators in the state are randomly jumping from one party to another. At such juncture it is imperative that the present generation emulates the dedication to one’s ideology that was shown by leaders like Comrade Kulla, and embark on a course where the welfare of the society is put ahead of narrow-minded personal gains, he said.
Secretary of CPI, Manipur unit, L Sotin stated that the life of the comrade who made sacrifices a part of his legacy is worth emulating by the youths of today. He stressed on the need to mass broadcast the many programmes undertaken and planned by the followers of Hijam Irabot.
The eldest son of Yumlembam Kulla and president of Manipur Loumee Marup, Jogendro, handed face masks contributed by the women artisans of Manipur Handloom and Handicrafts Artisans Cooperative Society Ltd to the persons attending the day’s event.
