IMPHAL: A ‘healthy’ baby girl was born to a 20-year old COVID-19 positive mother at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) early Monday morning at about 2:20 AM. The new-born weight about 3.25 kg.
The mother has been identified as Reshma (20), W/o Abbas Khan from Lilong, Thoubal district.
Dr. Ranjit, HOD Gynaecology Department, RIMS said the expecting mother was admitted at Emergency RIMS on Sunday. When she was tested for Covid-19 at PHC in Lilong on Saturday (August 8), she was negative, the doctor said. However, upon arrival at RIMS, Reshma was with Rapid Antigen Test which came out positive. Therefore, the team of doctors and nurses managed her as Covid-19 patient during the delivering period, the HOD said.
The patient was admitted on August 9 at 4.48 PM, Dr. Ranjit added.
He said that there were no symptoms like fever, problem in throat or breathing problem shown by the patient. And it is due to hard work and dedication that the patient gave birth successfully to a healthy female baby weighing 3.25 kg at 2.20 on Monday, the HoD said.
The new born baby is very healthy and there are no signs of any problem, the doctor said.
Dr. Ranjit affirmed even though the mother tested positive for COVID-19, there were no symptoms but as she tested positive, the mother and baby will be shifted to COVID-19 isolation ward at the earliest.
He said that gynaecology emergency ward has been open always till date and that the staffs have been giving treatment and service without any differentiation till now.
