IMPHAL: The cumulative positive cases for COVID-19 hit the 11,000-mark on Thursday with new 128 cases in the last 24 hours while the active cases stood at 2402 with 8,641 having recovered.
On Thursday, 128 fresh cases including 16 Central Armed Police Force (CAP) personnel were reported for the novel coronavirus.
With one more individual aged 50 succumbing to the novel virus at JNIMS in the last 24 hours, the death toll rose to 68.
According to Dr. Khoiraom Sasheekumar Mangang, Addl Director and Spokesperson, Health Department, Manipur, the total number of COVID-19 confirmed cases in Manipur is now 11,111, including 2,402 active cases and 8,641 recovered cases.
Of the new positive cases among the general population 40 are from Imphal West, 18 from Tamenglong, 16 from Noney, 13 from Imphal East, five from Thoubal, four each from Churachandpur, Bishnupur and Ukhrul, two each from Senapati, Kakching and Jiribam and one each from Tengnoupal and Chandel. Only seven persons from Imphal East are returnees from other states while the rest are locals without significant travel history, a release by the COVID-19 Common Control Room stated.
The new COVID-19 positive cases are being shifted to COVID Care facilities. All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, the Health department said.
The cumulative number of deaths in the state rose to 68 after a 50-year-old man from Thoubal died at JNIMS in a span of 24 hours. A total of 181 persons were discharged on Thursday and the recovery rate is 77.76 per cent, the release stated.
