Thoubal/Imphal: In a setback the Authority’s stringent measures to contain spread of COVID-19, Thoubal district on Saturday witnessed the highest single day spike in COVID-19 positive cases with 44 more fresh cases, 36 of them with no travel history, detected positive for the contagion.
10 samples out of 170 were detected positive when samples were tested at Thoubal District hospital while 26 out of 87 cases were detected at Moijing High school through Rapid Antigen test, according to District Surveillance Officer Thoubal. As the 100 bedded Covid Care Centre Thoubal cannot accommodate all the infected patients, they will be shifted to UNACCO Covid Care Centre Meitram, said the source.
Meanwhile, eight samples from the District were tested positive at RIMS lab.
Of the 44 cases confirmed today, eight individuals are said to be relatives of the particular individual from Thoubal Achouba, whose sample came positive on Friday while another two are close contacts of the Pradhan who had earlier infected with the virus. All 26 cases detected at Moijing High school are close contacts of the infected Pradhan and members, added the source.
The tally of confirmed cases in the district has jumped to 110 by Saturday.
Meanwhile, according to a release by COVID-19 common control room, the 30 fresh COVID-19 cases (25 males, 5 females) were detected at RIMS lab (24 samples), JNIMS (1) and District Hospital Thoubal (1) and Ukhrul (4) in the last 24 hours. All except three persons from Imphal east, Imphal west and Thoubal are returnees from other states.
The infected patients will be shifted to COVID care facilities and necessary medical precautionary measures like containtment and contact tracing are in place, added the statement.
The Control Room further stated that altogether 29 persons were also discharged from RIMS (1),
CCC Meitram (1), RD Wing Lamphelpat (1), Ukhrul (3), Churachandpur (11), Senapati district (11) and Chandel (1), thus recording an improved recovery rate by 69.85 percent
Physician from Spt district hospital tests positive
A physician of Senapati district hospital has tested positive for Covid-19 after he went for a rapid antigen test on Saturday.
As per the notification being served by the District Hospital Senapati (DHS) CMO Director Dr. Pfokreho Pfoze the doctor had attended both OPD and hospital duty on July 20 and 21 at the hospital.
Hence, as a precautionary measure, the contact tracing of both Primary and
Secondary contacts have been actively taken up by the Rapid Response Team.
Therefore, all primary contacts both the Hospital staff on duty and patients who attended Medicine OPD on either of the two days have been directed to report to the Office of the District Surveillance Officer immediately for Testing.
Further the Secondary contacts are advised to follow strict home Quarantine to contain the spread of COVID-19, he added.
