Coronavirus outbreak: 182 persons under Home Surveillance in the state

IMPHAL: Ten more people who returned to Manipur from China on Friday have been kept under surveillance by State Health officials in the state for possible exposure to Novel Coronavirus. With this, a total of 179 persons in the state are under home surveillance, said Dr L Arke Singh, Additional director (Public Health)/SSO, IDSP.

Following instruction from the Central Health Ministry to compulsorily screen the people returning from China, Thailand and Singapore and keep them under strict surveillance, State Health officials began to screen such persons and keep them under home surveillance. Earlier, 172 have been kept under home surveillance.

According to the Health officer, of the seven blood samples sent for lab test, results of four samples have been received and confirmed negative for Coronavirus. So far, there is no any positive cases and suspected cases in the hospital.

In the wake of global spread of Coronavirus, State Health authority has requested the Education department regarding preparedness and prevention of Coronavirus.

Regarding the activities being taken up by the state health officials, he said that a meeting of Additional director (Public Health) and Army personnel of Leimakhong was held regarding preparedness and response. Video conferencing of Health officials with Ministry of Health and Family welfare and all states and other stakeholders was held on Friday at NC, New Secretariat, Imphal.  Another video conferencing with the officials of the central Health ministry and NCDC was also held on February 5. A meeting of health officials from JNIMS, RIMS and Health department with Principal secretary (Health) in the chair on February 6 minutely discussed about the precautionary measures to be taken up when the Coronavirus is spread in the state.

State Health officials are communicating with Ministry of Health on daily basis. Screening at Airport and surface points of entry by the Health officials in the districts is in full swing and report is sent to the Centre regularly. Sensitization at district and community level by the concerned district health authorities  is underway apart from making the control, room functional by 24×7, added the Additional director.
