Coronavirus alert: 226 persons kept under home surveillance; another sample sent for lab test

IMPHAL: State Health officials have so far kept 226 persons who had returned to Manipur from China, Thailand and Singapore under home surveillance. On Friday, three more persons returning to Manipur via Imphal Airport was screened by the health officials and blood sample of one woman has been sent for lab test.

Till date, state health department have sent eight blood samples for lab test. Of the eight, result of  seven samples have been confirmed negative for deadly Novel Coronavirus and as such there is no positive cases in the state, said a top State Health official on Friday.

Dr L Arke Singh, Additional director (Public Health)/SSO, IDSP said that following instruction from the Central Health Ministry to compulsorily screen the people returning from China, Thailand and Singapore and keep them under strict surveillance, State Health officials began to screen such persons and keep them under home surveillance.

Regarding the activities being taken up by the state health officials, he said that health officials led by Addl Director (PH) have paid a surprise visit at Integrated Check Post Moreh gate no 1 and 2 on February 11. The team also discussed with Assam Rifles Tengnoupal regarding screening at entry points and initiation of the same at Khudengthabi.  In the wake of global spread of Coronavirus, state health authorities had earlier requested the education department to take up preparedness and prevention measures of Coronavirus.

Video conferencing of State Health officials and Central Health ministry was held today at 11 am at NIC, New Secretariat. A meeting of Additional director (Public Health) and Army personnel of Leimakhong was held regarding preparedness and response. Video conferencing of Health officials with Ministry of Health and Family welfare and all states and other stakeholders was held at NC, New Secretariat, Imphal.  Another video conferencing with the officials of the central Health ministry and NCDC was also held on February 5. A meeting of health officials from JNIMS, RIMS and Health department with principal secretary (health) in the chair on February 6 minutely discussed about the precautionary measures to be taken up when the Coronavirus is spread in the state.

State Health officials are communicating with Ministry of Health on daily basis. Screening at the airport and surface points of entry by the health officials in the districts is in full swing and report is sent to the Centre regularly. Sensitization at district and community level by the concerned district health authorities is underway apart from making the control, room functional by 24×7, added the Additional director.
