IMPHAL: Congress party has filed a No Confidence Motion against Chief Minister N Biren led Government in the state for not transferring the Lhukhosei Zou drug seizure case to the Central Bureau of Investigation.
Congress MLAs Keisham Meghachandra and Thokchom Lokeshwor submitted the notice for the No Confidence Motion to the Speaker Manipur Legislative Assembly on Tuesday at about 3:00 PM.
MLA Keisham Meghachandra, while coming out from the Manipur Legislative Assembly after submitting the notice, told reporters that the failure to hand over the Lhukhosei Zou case to CBI is one of the main cause why the party was filing the No Confidence Motion against Chief Minister N Biren led council of Ministers. The party has been demanding a CBI probe into the case for the last two years. High profile persons of the BJP and Chief Minister in cahoots with some police officers interfered in the investigation and court proceedings of the case. Such high profile persons of the BJP Government have threatened the media by filing FIR and contempt for publishing the drug case. Congress filed the No Confidence motion against the Government as it continues to support the drug case rather than transferring the case to CBI, he added.
The people, particularly the youths can no longer survive in the state when such high profile persons in cahoots with law enforcing machineries get involved in such drug cases. Government has threatened the media and honest police officers who are serving the state with dedication. Government once assured in the house that the Lhukhosei Zou case would be transferred to CBI but failed to do so. As such, we cannot expect that this Government will do justice”, Meghachandra said.
MLA Th Lokeshwor while strongly decrying the incident in which MPS officer Thounaojam Brinda was allegedly detained by Police last night for two hours termed it as a threat to the honest officer who is fighting against injustice. Government even threatened the media that published the affidavit of lady officer Th Brinda who exposed the drug case. It is high time that people, CSOs, media unite together to fight against the tyranny of the Government and encourage the lady officer who came out bravely to fight injustice.
