TMB REPORT

Imphal : Former Deputy Chief Minister and Congress Working committee member Gaikhangam has divulged that the mission 2022 of the Congress party is to bag not less than 45 seats in the ensuing Manipur Legislative Assembly election 2022.Attending the State Level Youth Interaction & Social Media Training Workshop organized by the Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress Committee held at Congress Bhavan on Sunday, Gaikhangam said that those Congress MLAs who lacked political principles have defected from the party and their defection cannot undermine the party in any manner. He claimed that the party has still an effective strength of 17 MLAs who are well committed to party ideology and principles. There was a time when the Congress party was left with lone MLA Rishang Keishing as all MLAs defected from the party. The party could even rule the State with a majority strength of 42 MLAs with the growing of its strength, he recalled.Elaborating on how the party would be strengthened further, Gaikhangam said that the party should be bolstered from the grassroots level to top level and this will happen soon.Congress party in its agenda has decided to amend 10th schedule if it comes to power again in the State. The party proposes provisions like immediate disqualification of an elected MLA or PM if he/she defects the parent party and ban on contesting election for six years. Defection era will end when the Congress party comes to power, he said.On delay in conducting election to local bodies, the seasoned politician said that election to the local bodies has been delayed owing to weakness of the government. For the government, it does not want the election to be held as they are quite apprehensive about their possible defeat in the election, he added. The present government has completely lost its self-confidence. Election is like an examination. Those meritorious students eagerly wait for the exam result while the blunt students do not want the exam result to be out. This government is like the blunt student who does not like exam results to be out. It is afraid of the grave consequence of the election as fallout of its misdeeds. Fear of election on the part of the government means fear of the people, Gaikhangam continued. He then urged his party men to work for the people with full dedication to ensure that the party restores its past glory and public trust.CLP leader Okram Ibobi, MPCC President Govindas Konthoujam, Sarifa Rahman Secretary IYC (Manipur in Charge), Runashree Saikia, Social Media, IYC (Manipur in-charge) also attended the function. The gathering paid floral tribute to Kasturba Gandhi on her 152nd birth anniversary.
