Cong MLA Rk. Imo, four others accompany CM
IMPHAL: Chief Minister N Biren has flown to the national capital on Tuesday to meet BJP central leaders to discuss about the prevailing political situation in the state.
The Chief Minister left Bir Tikendrajit International Airport Imphal at about 2:00 PM by a charter flight. MLA RK Imo and four other individuals accompanied him, sources added.
Before leaving Imphal, Chief Minister N Biren told reporters that his visit to the national capital was to meet the central leaders and celebrate the recent victory of BJP to the lone seat of Rajya Sabha.
Replying to a query regarding allocation of portfolios to the 4 NPP Ministers, the Chief Minister said that Central leaders will decide on it.
Despite the Chief Minister claiming that his visit was just a courtesy call to the Central leaders in connection with the recent BJP’s victory to the lone seat of Rajya Sabha from the state, it is speculated that the he had rushed to the national capital to meet the central leaders and to discuss the political unrest in the state. He will meet BJP national president JP Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah and discuss about the portfolios to be allocated to the 4 NPP ministers.
Notably, BJP led coalition Government was kept on tenterhooks after 4 NPP ministers, one AITC MLA, one Indpendent MLAs and 3 BJP MLAs pulled out from the coalition Government and joined hands with opposition Congress on June 17. Both ruling BJP and opposition Congress opened separate camps to form the Government. Congress even demanded the Governor to convene a special house session to conduct floor test to prove majority of the BJP Government.
With the direct intervention by BJP’s troubleshooter Himanta Biswa Sarma and NPP national president Conrad Sangma, the 4 NPP Ministers who resigned from the Government later supported the BJP Government again, giving a new lease of life to the BJP Government that was on the verge of collapse.
The 4 NPP legislators agreed to support the Government again after Home Minister Amit Shah reportedly assured to give them ministerial berths. Home Minister also reportedly assured to allot Home portfolio to the Deputy CM Y Joykumar, sources said.
Despite the BJP central leadership assured to allot ministerial berths to the 4 NPP Ministers, which portfolios would be allotted to them is yet to be clear till date.
Even as the threat of the opposition Congress to form a new Government is over, an internal crisis within the legislators of BJP and NPF erupted recently. BJP MLAs are against allocating ministerial berths to all the 4 NPP MLAs while NPF is demanding ministerial berths for all the four MLAs of the party. N Biren is believed to be kept between the devil and the deep sea due to such internal crisis within the Government and as such he rushed to the national capital to meet the central leaders to settle the crisis, added the source.
Upon arrival at New Delhi, Chief Minister will brief the central leaders about the prevailing political crisis in the state.
