IMPHAL: Chief Minister N. Biren launched the online portal of Forest Department for monitoring transit of forest produces ensuring good and transparent governance in the state at an opening ceremony held at CM’s Secretariat on Tuesday.
Chief Minister expressed his concern over rampant destruction of forests and killing of wildlife, especially in the hill areas of Manipur. He appealed the general people to join hands with the government in protection and conservation of forests reflecting climate change issues.
CM launched two web application namely, “Online Portal for Monitoring of Transit of Forest produces, Revenue Collection and Prevention of Illegal Transport and Wildlife Crimes” and “Dynamic & Interactive Official Website of Forest Department’’ in respect of Manipur Forest Department. He appreciated forest department officials for taking such initiatives of developing a user- friendly and people-centric dynamic portal and a website targeting to address public grievances by bringing in technologies-based interventions.
The website will be providing public interface of ease of business and good platforms like nursery management system, mechanism for management of wood based Industries, scheme-wise and cistrict-wise activities being undertaken by the department.
The application and the website have been developed as part of the Digital India scheme under the guidelines of Indian Government which was developed by Manipur Forest Department through National Informatics Centre Services Inc (NICSI), a body under Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology of the Central government.
“The Dynamic Online Portal has much functionality that will ensure ease of business to both customers or consignees and the forest staff. It will ensure good governance, transparency, flow of information to the public, hassle free support to the customers or consignees and remove their inconveniences, fast delivery on real-time basis, corruption-free interface between customers and forest staffs and accountability,” he stated.
CM further stated that it will help in removing scope of illegal elements from using fake transit passes in illegal transport of forest produces as Transit Passes (TPs) will be system generated and secured with QR Code which the portal intends to develop strong information network to prevent smuggling of forest produce and wildlife articles. It may also save and enhance revenue collection of the State by preventing illegal activities and ensured quick deposition in the government exchequer on real-time basis through online payment gateway.
He concluded by saying that the website will help in serving interactive platform and provides many information in public domain that focused in maintaining transparency and accountability of the present government in the state.
During the launch, additional Chief Secretary of Forest, Environment and Climate Change Dr. Suhel Akhtar, Kereilhouvi Angami, Anurag Bajpai, Waikhom Romabai, officials of NIC and many others related officials were presented among other senior officials of Manipur Forest Department.
