IMPHAL: Chief Minister N Biren, Labour & Employment Minister Thokchom Radheshyam have extended greetings to the greetings to the people on the occasion of International Workers’ Day falling on May 1.
In a message, Chief Minister N Biren stated that popularly known as May Day, the International Workers’ Day marks the celebration of labourers and the working class worldwide. It commemorates past labour struggles against a host of worker’s rights violation, including lengthy work days and weeks, poor condition and child labour.
Today, we are going through an emergency healthcare challenge arising out of the COVID-19 pandemic. To shield ourselves from the morbidity and mortality of the pandemic, the Government has been compelled to take stringent measures affecting economic and social spheres of life. Livelihood of wage earners and labourers are amongst the most affected by lockdown measures.
“I am grateful to the working class, wage earners and bread earners, who have been giving 100 percent cooperation to the steps taken up by Government to come out of this crisis even as they face the economic hardships head-on with resilience and fortitude.
I am thankful to the good Samaritans, CSOs, social workers and the common man who have come out to help labourers, the poor and the needy”, CM added.
Minister Th Radheshyam in his message said, “dedicated to the workers, on this day, the 1st of May, we celebrate as the Workers’ Day to commemorate the contributions and sacrifices made by them in building the nations. On this day, we celebrate the priceless contributions of the workers.
Extending his profound admiration and greetings to the working people, the backbone of the economy of the state, the minister said the workers have been firm in making sure that we get our daily needs in the face of this unprecedented crisis. I hope the Government’s decision to encourage activities related to agriculture-farming and allied activities during the nationwide lockdown will ensure all uninterrupted agricultural ventures. I am grateful to the farmers who toil our land and provide us everything so that there is flame in every kitchen.
Taking the opportunity of this special occasion of workers, he sought physical as well as moral support from every member of the society to win the fight against Covid-l9, which can be achieved through strict discipline and appealed to maintain Social social distancing, wear mask without fail and wash hands with soap.
