Imphal: Chief Minister N. Biren Singh handed over 10,000 hand sanitizers and 10,000 facemasks to the Manipur Police Department and 1000 hand sanitizers and 1000 face masks to the Transport Department in a simple function held at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat today.
The hand sanitizers and facemasks were arranged by the General Administration Department (GAD), Government of Manipur from the funds of Corporate Social Responsibility sponsored by the Airports Authority of India (AAI). DGP L.M. Khaute and Transport Director Mercina R. Panmei received these items from the Chief Minister on behalf of the Manipur Police Department and the Transport Department respectively. Half the numbers of these masks were made by local private enterprises while the other half were surgical masks.
N. Biren Singh also handed over Rs. 35 lakh to the Manipur Police Department and Rs. 10 lakh to the Transport Department from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to procure hand sanitizers and other personal protective items for use by those working in the frontline in tackling COVID-19.
The Chief Minister thanked the Airports Authority of India for extending assistance to the State Government at this hour of need. He said that the Authority has been helping the State Government from time to time under its CSR scheme.
Chief Secretary Dr. J. Suresh Babu, DGP L.M. Khaute, Additional Chief Secretary (Relief and Disaster) M.H. Khan, Principal Secretary (GAD) P. Vaiphei, Inspector General of Police E. Priyokumar and other high ranking officials from the AAI and the State Government also attended the function.
