IMPHAL: It would be a blatant betrayal to the people of Manipur if the claim of the NSCN-IM that Government of India had permitted them to open its designated camp at Kangkhui-Shirui Forest in Ukhrul district in 2007 comes true, the United Committee, Manipur (UCM) has stated.
UCM publicity secretary BM Yaima in a press release stated that the NSCN-IM, in its press statement regarding Kamjong incident published in a Dimapur based media on April 25, has claimed that the then chairman of Ceasefire Monitoring Group (CFMG) Lt. Gen. R.V. Kulkarni (Retd.), in his letter addressed to the Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India Mr Naveen Verma on February 6, 2007, revealed about centre’s approval to open designated camp of the NSCN-IM at Kangkhui-Shirui Forest area .
If this statement comes true, UCM takes it a blatant and biggest betrayal to the people of Manipur by the Government of India for a long time in the eyes of the world.
Centre should clarify on this. Government of India will face the public rage as fallout of the communal conflict to be engineered by the Centre’s wrongful policy, Yaima stated adding that UCM never forgets the statement of the then Prime Minister of India made during a meeting of the North East Chief Ministers held soon after the June 18, 2001 public uprising. We feel it is right time to recall the statement, the UCM said.
