Ccpur district observes Van Mahotsav

CCPUR: The weeklong Van Mahotsav celebration in Churachandpur under the auspices of Churachandpur Forest Division culminated with a district level function on Tuesday morning at DTC Hall followed by plantation of tree saplings along the roadside from Saikot to Valpakot on the Churachandpur-Sugnu road.

Earlier in the morning, another tree plantation drive was carried out at 1st IRB premises located at Headquarter Veng here under the supervision of Lunkhomang Khongsai, CO 1st IRB. Officers and all ranks and files of the Battalion planted about 200 tree saplings in and around the premises as part of the Van Mahotsav Week, 2020.

Addressing the function at DTC Hall, Deputy Commissioner Pawan Yadav, who attended as the chief guest, stressed the importance of planting and conservation of trees for the overall benefits of human being. Also stressing on the need for judicial cutting down of trees, he advocated the need for sustainable development of forests. Yadav further urged all concerned to spread awareness on this matter.

Speaking at the occasion, Amrita Sinha, the superintendent of police, said that although Van Mahotsav is a festival of trees, it is not restricted to the festival alone, but it is much more than that. It serves as a channel to create awareness about tree plantation and conservation of Mother Nature. Pointing out that there is rampant deforestation in the district, she said that it is really necessary to spread awareness about plantation, preservation and conservation of forest or trees. All concerned should take the lead from the individual capacity to preserve the trees and forest. She further said that the Van Mahotsav celebration would assume more significance in the backdrop of certain natural disaster happening around.

Amrita further appealed all concerned to care more for nature so that Mother Nature reciprocates the cares that posterity enjoys the bliss of nature to the fullest.

Esther Laltankim Serto, Divisional Forest Officer, Churachandpur said that as a part of the weeklong celebration, the Forest department has conducted plantation drive across the district from July 2, 2020. She said that apart from plantation of trees, the other highlights of the celebration included spreading awareness among the masses.

Amongst others, the function was attended by L. Khongsai, CO 1st IRB; Shivanand Surve, Additional SP (L/O); N. Chingkhei, ZEO and other DLOs. Later, roadside tree plantation drive was carried out from Saikot to Valpakot along the Churachandpur-Sugnu road.
