Imphal: ABVP has stated that it absolutely condemned Senior Advocate Indira Jaising’s statement urging Nirbhaya’s mother to forgive those convicted for the brutal rape and murder. For all intents and purposes, this implies a direct encouragement to extremely horrific crimes.
It must be restated that the brutal episode of Nirbhaya’s rape and murder had sent the nation into a state of hopelessness, with the people demanding capital punishment for the accused Vinita, National Secretary, ABVP, said.
“Supposed human-rights activists have turned the issue of women’s security on its head by demanding mitigation in the severity of punishment for the convicts. We must prioritize self-defence training for women ABVP has been at the forefront of the movement to impart physical and psychological strength training among lakhs of female students by way of its signature program – Mission Sahasi. Besides, stringent laws and additional steps for speedy disposal of cases have to be materialised for ensuring comprehensive safety of women in every part of our country,” it stated.
Nidhi Tripathi, National General Secretary, ABVP, said, “All along Nirbhaya’s mother’s long struggle for justice, Indira Jaising has been conspicuous only by her absence. Why is she trying to urge Nirbhaya’s mother into forgiving the convicts? At best, Indira Jaising comes across as a dubious defender of human rights. We demand an immediate execution of the convicts. The old adage, justice delayed is justice denied must be our only guiding principle in this uphill battle for justice.”
