CADA conducts meeting on curbing drug menace

Imphal: Coalition Against Drugs & Alcohol (CADA) in collaboration with Ningol Club Heirok organised a meeting with the objective to root out drugs and liquors from the soil of the State at Heirok Part-II Mayai Leikai Community Hall, Thoubal district on Friday.

The meeting was held on the topic ‘Nishana khunaida piba cheitheng amasung masibu thingbada meeyam gi thoudang.’

A press release issued by CADA Secretary & Information Publicity Khundongbam Anand said that Meira Paibi leader Khungdongbam (o) Bhani, Anganwadi Worker Moirangthem (o) Mala, Ningol Club President Sophiya Khundongbam, Political Activist Moirangthem Totonsana and CADA President Hijam Priyokumar attended as the Presidium Members while CADA Secretary General Geetchandra Mangang attended as Resource Person.  

Speaking at the gathering as Resource Person, Geetchandra Mangang said that in the State, the number of young married women who returned to their respective paternal residence has rapidly risen due to an increase in consumption of alcohols and drugs by their respective spouses.   

He said that incidents of domestic violence are increasing and there is a lot of news of people committing heinous crimes such as killing their own children and wife. He said that once upon a time, alcohol was consumed only by men but now even women have started consuming alcohol and their numbers are increasing rapidly day by day. Nowadays eating pan, talab and other intoxicants things is taken as a fashion, he added.

Political activist M. Tontonsana also said that in almost every house there are either drug or alcohol addicts in the State at present. He said that Friday’s discussion meeting is very important as people gained valuable knowledge from it about the effect of consuming alcohols and drug menace. He then appealed to the gatherings to take serious measures to curb drug menace and addiction to alcohol.      

At the end of the meeting, certificates were distributed to all the trainees who participated in the training of bag making which was organised jointly by Engelei Paper & Print Pvt. Ltd and Ningol Club, Heirok.
