MDA shows gratefulness for considering another three Assembly constituency
Imphal: The Manipur Democratic Alliance (MDA) comprising eight political parties has expressed its gratitude towards the Election Commission of India (ECI) for its decision to hold by elections to another three Assembly constituencies on November 7 and 8, 2020.
Addressing a press conference held at MDA Office at Babupara on Tuesday, its convenor M. Tombi, said that after ECI announced bye-election to only two Assembly constituencies, the alliance held a serious meeting which resolved for the submission of application to the ECI to expand the number of seats for by elections. After the resolution, the MDA sent an application to the ECI to include all the 13 vacant Assembly constituencies of Manipur leaving out the constituencies which verdict are still to be delivered by the High Court.
He said that the written application was heard at the right time by the ECI and tabled during the discussion, finally giving its approval to holding elections in another three constituencies for which the MDA is very grateful to the ECI.
The MDA strongly believes that the ECI will take up appropriate steps for conducting elections to the remaining vacant Assembly constituencies which are not entangled in legal cases in the court. It will ensure that the people do not lose their democratic rights and human rights and also gives rights to all the people to choose their own right representatives. The MDA is also really appreciative and happy on the fact that all the political parties in the state are performing their responsibilities to the issues of the State that come up from time to time.
He appealed to candidates to solicit votes for the bye-election following the SOP given by the Government, and not to convert the election into a carnival of entertainment and celebration.
